OUR TEACHER is coming to our school to watch us!! That was amazing. I was absolutely nervous and made so many mistakes.
About first activity, warming up the class with TPR technique was found good and effective by our teacher. She thinks it was a good start and take all the class into the lesson at the beginning.
After that, about the first activity, it was a reading activity, and after all we thought we should read aloud as a teacher.  Students were starting to distract. So, we made them read silently. But our teacher told us this was bad for class management. We tried to find easy passage for 5th grade but of course there were some words they didn’t know. We should make them clear so asked them to tell us the words they don’t know and write them to the board. As our teacher said it was completely different from the reading activity and we diverged from the main activity for 5 minutes. Then, we thought it would be better to use the blackboard for true/false questions about the passage.  She told it would be better writing them under the passage so the students could read the passage and answer the questions easily. She was completely right.
We had problems about the time using. As we had limited time for the second activity and the final activity we should be fast doing them. Our teacher said there were too many worksheets distributed and students could have problems to control and solve all of them. She said we could use the board for some of the activities instead of too many worksheets. We rushed for the rest of the activities and it seemed they couldn’t reach their aim and students barely understand and answer the questions activities included. Last activities were better but as the time was limited we couldn’t give the effect we planned to give before.

In conclusion, we suffered from not being well-prepared and inadequacy of class management. 

3 Nisan 2015 Cuma

On Friday morning, we did a micro teaching lesson for 5th grade and it took just 30 minutes. We asked the teacher of the class we go as interns the subject of the lesson and she answered that she had to pass to the present continuous tense so she can go with the curriculum correctly. We thought we could do good start in this subject. But as it is the first time students see this tense in the lesson, we thought it would be better to write the structure of the sentence in the present continuous tense to the board. But our teacher in her reflections told us that the lesson should be more inductive. She also added this activity isn’t appropriate for learners of this age. This activity might be used in the courses but in the government schools students must be more involved in the class by the teacher. There was not adequate language acquisition. As seen in the video, main language was used too much and this is a problem for comprehension of the second language. Almost all of the instructions told in Turkish. We watched after and we found our teacher right. She also added we had problems in class management. She said teacher should be sure his/her students follow him/her.

In the second activity, she said it was a good activity for learners of this age. It was good to interact with the students. The activity includes acting out. We tried to do this activity with whole class. But she said it could be well-prepared. Sometimes we had problems as seen in the video. Instructions were Turkish so it was negative for us. But we can say this activity saved today’s lesson and give the students ideas about present continuous tense.

Revision Week


Fourth week! Time passed just like the eye blink. I love this day because we come here, this school to see this brilliant students and observe them how they progress.
We learned that this week is revision week so this lesson didn't include so much communication between students and teacher. Students solve the questions from the exercises in the workbook. We help them to do so. Teacher told them they could get help from us if they need. This was the opportunity to communicate with students and make the environment more sincere. We tried to do so and help them as much as we can. This unit in the workbook was completely finished it that day.

Writing Exercises


This is third week and I think we cannot be counted as novice interns because we got used to this school and this internship.
Our teacher told the topic to us before we arrived to class. And it was writing exercises in the textbook for that unit. There were some passages for an example to students to write. They worked in partners. For improving they wrote letter to each other as partners. They read them after. Some of them were really interesting and cheered us up. There were some extra materials and teacher's advice about writings. Teacher gave some homeworks.

When/While

Second week has come at last! We had missed the teacher and the students. Since that winter is coming, the weather is getting cold day by day. But we are lucky our school just has a distance to mettro in aproximately 10 minutes. We finally arrived to our school and meet with our teacher with great attitude towards us. We really like her even if we passed just a one day with her. I say 'we' because I have a internship partner or observation mate;my friend Emrah Madenci.
We came to class together after the small sincere talk with teacher. Students were less surprised to see us his week than last week. I think they are so cool.
I want to talk about today's lesson included. First, teacher asked some questiıons and they talk about the homework given last week. Then it comes to the topic. The topic was really important in English. As we thought it was 'when/while'. Whole class open their notebooks and the page of that topic. Teacher read some explanations about when/while and some students took notes. Students seemed like they know this topic before. They were completely in the lesson. Teacher wanted them to write a story with many sentences includin when/while. It was hard exercise but really beneficial for them. Some of them could write a story. Teacher made them read and corrected mistakes in the sentences. Then, there was a worksheet handed out to students about when/while. It was easy and students solved the questions on their own. We helped some of them. Then the lesson was over. It was a great lesson.
I can say a sentence about my observation today. ' A good English teacher can make you love English.'

Hello again! Today, we will observe the lesson first time this semester with my friend Emrah Madenci. We tried to look as if we are calm but it is obvious that we were really excited. In this last year of the university, I believe internship is great thing to do. We meet with our teacher Emel Koçak. She is really sincere and kind person. We are lucky as interns to have a teacher like her. And then we took the way to her class in that hour. The students were surprised to see us. Emel teacher introduced us to them and they greeted us. It was really exciting even if we sat the bak side of the class.
The subject of that lesson was reading passages. My first notice was the respect between students and the teacher. Attitude of the students towards their teacher was remarkable and admirable. The teacher kindly introduced the topic and she read the first passage. She wanted them listen to her really careully and they exactly did that surprisingly. After that students read the passages and whole class did the exercises together with the teacher. Some of them were looking at us and we tried to help them to solve the questions. Time passed just like a moment but we didn't even notice. It was really great experience in the eve of the being a teacher. I am really excited to wait for a next day we come for observation.

First Day of Internship

Hello everyone. 

This is the school where I go for internship. I love this school and students in there just the day I step into school's garden. I have little experience with them yet. But in this season, I hope we will have a great time together. I and my classmate Emrah Madenci, we are going to observe the same class in this school. Because of the change in lesson schedule, we couldn't get the right day of our teacher. So, when the observation starts, you will immediately get my experiences and observations from this blog. I will share everything with you. You can also get useful, important, remarkable, daily or historical things or news about English Language Teaching or other subjects from life.
